Salford head coach Ian Watson, speaking to the League Express, accepts the fact that every side has bad spells throughout the season but is hoping his Red Devils can turn it around sooner rather than later.
Watson said: “Everyone has these blips in a tough, long season. Some of our guys have played more games than they’ve ever done.
“We’re really pleased with where some of them have got to, but you need to have a pride in what you do and finishing the season strongly will show what pride we have in ourselves as a group.
“This is the big lesson for our group and for me as a coach. We’ve put ourselves in a really good position now but what counts is what we do from here. It’s all about learning.
“We have players that have played at this level, but a lot that haven’t.
“On the journey we are on this is brilliant for us moving forward, but every week we need to make sure we compete. We don’t want this season to just fizzle out.
“The players that we’ve tried to develop at Salford are players who will compete, no matter when it is, in a match environment or on a training run.
“You always try to win and that’s the mentality we want moving forward.”
After Salford’s most successful season in recent memory Watson is hoping is side haven’t slacked off heading into the most pivotal stage of the season.
Watson said: “Earlier in the seson we set ourselves a target and we’ve done that now.
“We wrapped the team up on the back of that and you wonder if we’ve fallen into the trap of thinking we are good enough.
“I’d like to think it’s not that, but we need to re-focus and really make the most of the opportunity in front of us.
“It’s how you come out of these blips. We’re working hard to fix it and it’s not for a lack of effort that we’re losing these games. We just need to get back to the level we were at earlier in the season.”
