THE ORIGINAL RED DEVILS

George Griffin – "We chased the game before we needed to"

Despite losing to Leeds last night Red Devils forward George Griffin knows the importance of playing at this level every week if the players and club want to move forward.
Last season Salford maintained their Super League status with a drop-goal in extra-time of the Million Pound Game but this season has seen the club earn their highest ever regular season finish, their first Challenge Cup semi-final for twenty years and their first every play-off/Super 8s victory.
Griffin, sponsored by Super Josh, said: “We’ve played in some big games this season especially in the middle eights against the likes of Hull, Wigan and Leeds away – it doesn’t get much tougher than that.
“Leeds are always in these big games and they know how to adjust to them if we want to play and compete in these games we need to learn from these and adjust ourselves.
“I think we chased the game before we really needed to. We were only two tries behind and we started to lose our game plan and started trying to score every set which again is down to big game experience.
“The clubs I’ve played at and the games I’ve competed in I’ve never been involved in this calibre of fixture and neither has a lot of our dressing room at the moment. We need to learn and develop from these games and make sure we’re involved in these sort of matches on a regular basis.
“Our performance was disappointing on our part. We got a good win last week and came here full of confidence and I think the first half, despite what the scoreline suggested, we were in the game and playing well.
“They scored a couple of sloppy tries off the back of our defence but we came in at half-time thinking we were well in it but yeah I can’t really explain what happened in the second half from us – it wasn’t good enough.”
