THE ORIGINAL RED DEVILS

WRIGHT: “I REALLY WANTED TO STAY!”

Shane Wright just could not hide his delight at extending his Salford Red Devils contract.

The back-rower has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal, keeping him at the club until 2026.

His extension is the latest in a long list of current players who have decided to commit their long-term future to the Red Devils.

“It feels good,” Wright told us in our exclusive chat, over on YouTube.

“I really wanted to stay deep down, but it’s always good to secure your future, coming off contract is a bit of an unknown, so to get my future sorted is unreal!”

Wright was on a hot streak before his unfortunate injury against World Champions, St Helens in early May.

Following a challenge in the centre of the park, the Aussie was helped off the field by physios and scans later revealed he needed ankle surgery to solve quite a nasty issue.

Before that, Wright’s performances across 2023 were outstanding and his tries against Hull FC, Castleford Tigers, and Huddersfield Giants were just further proof he can provide moments of quality in both defence and attack.

When asked why he feels so comfortable at the club, Wright replied: “The group of lads.

“I’ve said it before, we have a good bunch here, so you come to training everyday and you enjoy it.

“That and the community as well; I live in Salford, right on the border of Manchester, so I love the area.”

To secure a player of Wright’s calibre is a huge statement by the club and it’s almost certain he’ll play a massive role in what success the team achieve in the near future.
