We can confirm Tim Lafai has been granted a release from his current contract to return to his young family in Australia.
The Samoan international has enjoyed three incredible years as a Red Devils, quickly becoming a fan favourite with his devastating performances at centre.
During his 69 appearances in a Red shirt, Lafai has scored 22 times, and his incredible power and ability to shrug off defenders became a potent weapon for Paul Rowley, but his rugby IQ was also a standout attribute.
His trademarked flick out the back set up a whole host of Salford wingers, past and present to score some crucial tries. Perhaps none more so than the pass Deon Cross received to secure a first away victory against St Helens for over 44 years.
In his debut season with the Reds, Lafai was selected for 2022’s Betfred Super League Dream Team alongside teammates Brodie Croft and Ken Sio – a season where we reached the semi-final stage.
In his last message before departing for Australia, Lafai said: “A lot of you know I’m going back home to my family, but before I do, I just wanted to say a huge thank you to the Club, the players, the staff and you supporters.
“We’ve made some great memories over the four years I’ve been here, we’ve had some ups and downs, but you guys stuck around.
“You’re going to be hugely missed and a huge part of my life, I’ll always remember you guys.
“Some special mentions to Lee Marksy, Jodie, Chris, Evie, Josh and their families – you guys made a home away from home for me – so thank you for everything.
“Especially you boys, the boys I’ve played alongside present and past, it’s been a rollercoaster of a ride, but one of the best times I’ve had here.
“One of the best playing groups and the staff who always made me feel welcome, put up with my nonsense – it’s been a great time.
“You supporters; without you, running out here at home you make go up another level when I hear you chanting my name. It’s those little things I’m going to remember for the rest of my life.”
Everyone at Salford Red Devils would like to thank Timmy for his immense contributions in the red shirt and wish him well as he returns home.
