Recently Salford Red Devils Foundation were proud to support ‘Hate Crime Awareness Week’ with this initiative launching at our game against London Broncos.
The initiative is designed to help the community develop a better understanding of what hate crime is and how to go about reporting it. In addition, it will also promote a zero-tolerance attitude towards hate crime and extremism.
Salford Red Devils Foundation Manager, Neil Blackburn, said: “Hate crime awareness week is something that we are proud to support, and we feel it is crucial that both the Salford Red Devils Foundation and Club get behind this campaign.
“Outside the The Salford Stadium, against London, we had a mini festival to help us launch our programme and promote hate crime awareness week.
“Salford Red Devils Foundation will then be delivering community sessions to spread the message of ‘spread love not hate’.
“The Salford Red Devils first team players will be an integral part of this campaign and we will be looking to get them out in our surrounding areas to promote this meaningful cause to the community.”
Hate crimes are any crimes that are targeted because of hostility or prejudice in relation to the following protected characteristics:
- Disability
- Race or ethnicity
- Religion or belief
- Sexual orientation
- Transgender identity
- Alternative sub-culture hate crime
You can report hate crimes by:
- Calling the police on 101
- Via the True Vision website – report-it.org.uk
- Through a hate crime reporting centre – letsendhatecrime.com
Hate crime has no place in Salford. Everyone has the right to feel safe valued and we all have a responsibility to stand against hatred and discrimination against all protected characteristics.
