SALFORD RED DEVILS FORM PARTNERSHIP WITH PONSONBY PONIES

Salford Red Devils are delighted to form a partnership with New Zealand-based rugby league club, Ponsonby Ponies.

Formed in 1908, Ponsonby are the oldest club in New Zealand – boasting a rich and illustrious history.

They have been at the heart of Auckland since their formation and play home games at Victoria Park – a venue that’s seen them win 12 Auckland Championships.

This new partnership – like other clubs in our portfolio – will allow us to share and nurture player development, which in turn, boosts the pathways for young talent to progress.

We will look to share the same playing and coaching values, with both clubs looking to grow awareness and activities in new markets.

Ian Blease, Director of Rugby and Operations, has said: “I am delighted that we have agreed to create a new relationship and partnership with a forward-thinking club in New Zealand, the Ponsonby Ponies.

“Implementing another new partnership in another country is further establishing our worldwide connections as a club and is giving us more brand awareness in the Southern Hemisphere, alongside our partnership with the Ipswich Jets.

“I look forward to now growing the relationship and working alongside Martin and his staff at the club.”

Martin Riding, Secretary of Ponsonby Ponies has also said: “We are delighted to partner with Salford Red Devils.

“For our club to access world class football knowledge and expertise is a real step change for the game here in Auckland.

“It will enable us to measure our athletes against Super League standards, and hopefully provide some real pathways for our players to develop to their potential.

“The open nature of the Red Devils has been fantastic, and we hope to provide a beacon of support for Salford here in New Zealand.

“We are really excited to explore new ways of thinking, and having an agreement with the Red Devils hopefully provides opportunity for both clubs into the future. “
