Ex-Robin, Ethan Ryan is desperate for another taste of Wembley Stadium, as Salford Red Devils visit his former club in Round 6 of the Betfred Challenge Cup.
Hull KR lost last year’s final when Leigh Leopards’ Lachlan Lam slotted over a drop-goal three minutes into golden point.
A drama-riddled 80 minutes, where KR had also levelled the scores very late into the contest, was a perfect advert for what magic rugby league’s premiere cup competition can bring.
Ryan was on the losing side that day, but, speaking exclusively to our YouTube channel, he says wants to ‘taste’ that special occasion again – this time with Salford.
“I’m so excited, it’s a really special competition for me,” he began.
“I got to run out at Wembley last year – obviously we didn’t get the win – but I just want to have that taste again and go one step further this year.
“I’m really sure we can do it with this group of lads.”
Returning to the place he once called home will be a strange feeling for the winger, but it’s one he wants to relish and make an impact.
“It’ll be a weird one going over to Hull KR and playing, it’s a place I’ve had some fond memories, but I’m a Salford player now and it’ll be good to get back for a few games to play against them.”
On what sort of game we can expect from a Willie Peters side, Ryan was quick to mention the hostile atmosphere created under the lights at Craven Park.
“I know it quite well to be fair; you’re going to get players working very hard for each other, and the one percenters – they’re going to have that Hull KR crowd behind them.
“Like I said, we’ve beat them once this year, we know the recipe to do it, so we’ve got to be willing to replicate that and go one step further because they’ll be wanting to get one back on us.”
