ROWLEY SAYS SALFORD WENT ‘OFF SCRIPT’ DESPITE SOLID FIRST-HALF SHOWING

Head Coach, Paul Rowley says his team went ‘off script’ after the Catalans Dragons went down to twelve men, despite a solid first-half display.

The Reds were beaten by the French outfit in Round 25 of the Betfred Super League, after a bruising contest at the Salford Community Stadium.

Neil Tchamambe scored two and Jack Darbyshire bagged his second in as many games, but it was ultimately Ugo Tison’s 76th minute drop-goal that settled proceedings.

Speaking to the press after the game, Rowley said: “I thought we were good for our half-time win. And then second-half I think Catalans stepped up, and obviously, with a man down, they played a really direct game.

“I thought we had a lot of warning shots around the ruck in the first-half, and we spoke about them in the dressing room, and we spoke about being a little bit more proactive, and getting on the front foot.

“But I felt we were anything but; to be honest, I thought we were defensively too passive, and we wen’t off-script offensively.

“It’s been an achilles heel of Salford over the last few years, every time a team goes down to 12 men, we seem to go off the script when it needs to be a whole lot simpler.

“So yeah, I thought Catalans did a good job, I thought we were unlucky with them two disallowed tries, but that’s the way the cookie crumbles, we had a dig and came out the wrong side unfortunately.”
