Head Coach, Paul Rowley has admitted Castleford Tigers won the physical battle in yesterday’s Betfred Super League clash.
Round 11 action saw the Reds visit the Jungle for the second time this season, looking to avenge defeat in our last encounter with Danny McGuire’s side.
Despite the scoreline weighing heavy in the Tigers’ favour, the full picture of the game wasn’t as simple, with two early tries at the start of the second period threatening a comeback.
Matty Foster crossed before Nene Macdonald – making his return to the team – did the same just minutes later. A flurry of Cas tries took the game away from Salford, but the PNG international did score his second in the 77th minute.
Giving his assessment of the game in his post-match press conference, Rowley said: “I thought probably from half-time there wasn’t much statistically in the game, but I thought Castleford were better physically than us with and without the ball.
“Whilst we showed some promise in the first-half with a couple of tries and a near miss for the third, which would have made it interesting and gave us a bit more hope.
“I thought Cas then kicked on, and like I said, they were better physically than us – and for me that was the difference.”
On the return of star centre, Macdonald, our Head Coach continued: “Yeah, it’s great. Nene is a world-class player and while he was only 75% of where he can be at, that 75% is more than a lot of players’ 100%, so it was good to see Nene back for him, as well as for us.”
