ROWLEY PROVIDES HONEST ASSESSMENT OF WAKEFIELD DEFEAT

Head Coach, Paul Rowley has provided his honest assessment of our heavy defeat to Wakefield Trinity.

It was a tough afternoon for the Reds, who showed glimpses of life, but were overhauled by the power and athleticism of a well-drilled home side.

Nene Macdonald crossed on his 200th career appearances, making that three tries in his last two appearances, with Jonny Vaughan also scoring his second in a Salford shirt.

Speaking to the press after the game, Rowley said: “My focus is on the group. We’ve got busy days and a short turnaround now against Wigan.

“They come thick and fast, and that’s what’s good about our job, you deal with one thing and then onto the next – we’re always busy.

“We enjoy training, we enjoy each others company, but ultimately it’s quite evident that we’ve lost a lot of quality out of the side, and as much as we all like to think us coaches are some sort of masterminds, it’s never really the case, it’s more of a case if you have enough good talent, you’ll probably win most games.

“We’ve lost a lot of our starting talent and it’s important that it’s not comment to take away from some of the people, youngsters who are having a real dig for us.

“For example from today, for me, two standouts I’d have to say Nathan Connell, who I think has been unbelievable.

“In the real world, unless this situation presented itself, he wouldn’t have been playing in our side, he wouldn’t have got this opportunity – so I’m really pleased for him.

“I’m really pleased that he’s stood behind a lad like Jack Ormondroyd, who has just gone up about five levels in his consistency. The minutes he’s played, he’s been enormous for us.”
