ROWLEY LOOKING TO BUILD ON A MORE ‘CONNECTED’ OFFENCE PERFORMANCE

Head Coach, Paul Rowley is looking to build on a more ‘connected’ performance in attack after last week’s showing against the Leigh Leopards.

The Reds, despite defeat, produced a valiant display at the LSV, scoring first via Joe Mellor and only down by six points at half-time.

Five second-half Leopards tries confirmed a home victory, but it was certainly a game the team can take a lot of encouragement from.

Speaking to the press before this Friday’s trip to Warrington Wolves, our Head Coach has pinpointed how his team can build on their Round 23 display.

He said: “I thought we were connected more in offence and that resulted in a higher completion rate, so we asked more questions. I think the introduction of Rowan Milnes and Joe Mellor in the halves brought us stability, clarity and like I said before, with communication and clarity, a byproduct is a higher completion rate, so that puts you in the game.

“There are some clear improvements off the back of that high completion rate. We need to defend well and then you get in that arm wrestle, and if you do them two things, you get in the arm wrestle.

“I spoke last week about different players and new players, the fundamentals never change, and they’re the fundamentals that I speak about.

“Replicate, but add another layer to our attack because we’ve had another week in training, so we’d like that to improve while retaining a solid completion rate.

“Some improvements in our 1v1 defending, but particularly control of the ruck against a team that have a lot of pace – Walker, Dufty, Williams – who will punish you in and around that ruck area if we’re loose or allow that to be too quick.”
