ROWLEY FULL OF PRAISE FOR ‘ONE OF A KIND’ MELLOR

Head Coach, Paul Rowley was full of praise for ‘one of a kind’ Joe Mellor after Friday’s Betfred Super League clash with the Leigh Leopards.

The halfback turned hooker has been one of the club’s most underrated signings of recent years, showing his class week-on-week despite such a tough situation.

After a spell on the sidelines, Mellor made his return to action in last Friday’s Round 23 clash at the Leigh Sports Village, marking it with a lovely, trademark hooker’s try.

Despite his effort coming in vain, there was no shortage of praise for his performance from his Head Coach when he spoke to the press post-match.

“Joe’s probably one of the best characters in my time we’ve had at the club. I can’t speak highly enough of him.

“He’s a fantastic rugby player, but his character outshines how good he is at rugby. He’s come back early from injury, that’s why we had to be careful with him there, he was just struggling a little bit – others did that as well.

“But he certainly had a great influence, and when he did go off, it affected us as well. He’s one of a kind, Joey, he’s fantastic to have around.”
