Head Coach, Paul Rowley has provided an honest assessment on yesterday’s 58-0 defeat to St Helens in the Betfred Super League.
Despite experienced names returning to the fold, it was the physicality of Saints’ pack that dominated proceedings, rolling the Reds back onto our own try line for prolonged periods.
Kyle Feldt scored a hat-trick, with Tristan Sailor, Owen Dagnall and Jake Burns also bagging braces in a flurry of Saints tries, particularly in the second-half.
It leaves the Reds with just one win in 16 Super League games in 2025, with the team desperate to build any kind of momentum as we approach the final two months of the campaign.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Rowley said: “I’m disappointed because I felt like we had some green shoots in terms of the team we were able to put out; bringing Ethan (Ryan) back, Jayden (Nikorima) and Danny (Richardson) joining in.
“Obviously training, a lot of coaches like to reference training, but you see it steps up a level, everything is a little bit sharper. I guess bringing them back early – Jayden and Ethan I’m referring to – probably earlier than we should have done means you don’t get your reps in and stuff like that.
“I think that’s why it hurts because we had a team capable of much more than we showed out there.”
