Red Devils urge fans to help Swinton survival bid

As rugby league supporters, we all understand that local rivalry between clubs is one of the heartbeats that makes this sport so addictive for players, coaches and spectators alike.

However there comes a time when it is important to put club colours to one side and show each support, for the greater good of the wider rugby league community.

Our long time rivals, and local neighbours, Swinton Lions are currently experiencing financial difficulties, and the Salford Red Devils urge of all our supporters to do what they can to support a historic rugby league club, just like our own.

Red Devils supporters will remember that the Lions came to our aide in our hour of need in 2013, and now is the time for our supporters to reciprocate this solidarity.

With the Red Devils in action on Friday night against Castleford Tigers, it would be great to see as many Salford supporters attending Swinton’s game on Sunday against Dewsbury Rams. Full ticket information can be found here.

As someone who played in a number of derby games against Swinton in his time as a Salford player, CEO Ian Blease hopes that the Red Devils supporters will be out in force to support our neighbours, he said;

“It was always a great experience to play in those games against Swinton in front of hugely passionate fans from both clubs. Although the clubs have taken different paths in the years that have followed, it is still hugely important to the game of Rugby League that clubs such as Swinton survive. I urge as many of our supporters as possible to get down to Heywood Road on Sunday and show some support to our closest neighbours.”
