THE ORIGINAL RED DEVILS

Red Devils sink Vikings

The Red Devils got back to winning ways in Super League with a 30-10 win over Widnes Vikings.

Ian Watson named a much changed side, with Niall Evalds and Jake Bibby coming into the squad, and Dan Murray making his Super League debut.

Widnes came into the game on the back of only their second win of the season against St Helens the week before.

The game started off with not much to choose between the sides, as both teams started off with high completion rates.

The Red Devils eventually broke the Widnes defence down and opened the scoring through Ben Murdoch-Masila who forced his way through the defence to score.

Minutes later and the Red Devils were in again, a flowing move from right to left was finished in spectacular fashion to give Salford a 12-0 lead a the break.

Widnes started the second half on the front foot and got themselves on the score sheet following some good offloads, to pull the score back to 12-6.

It wasn’t long before the Red Devils restored the 12 point buffer, with Rob Lui putting a clever chip in, which was taken brilliant by Niall Evalds to score under the posts.

Widnes hit back, with Patrick Ah Van scoring in corner as the Vikings moved the ball out wide quickly. Crucially the kick was missed as Salford maintained a two-score lead.

That lead was then stretched to 10 points as Dobson kicked a penalty, and then Ben Murdoch-Masila scored his second of the match as Salford took control of the latter stages of the game.

Jake Bibby did well to score his first ever try for the Red Devils, and Salford saw out a comfortable 30-10 win.

Attentions to now turn to the trip to Wigan Warriors on Friday night.
