The Salford Red Devils a 13-12 win in tough conditions against an unbeaten Castleford Tigers at the The Salford Stadium.
Salford bought Adam Walne into the squad, with Junior Sa’u making a return having missed last weeks game due to illness.
Castleford came into the game on the back of 4 Super League wins, including a 3-0 win over Widnes last weekend.
The game start off on a even keel with both teams going set for set, but it was the Tigers who opened the scoring, with Luke Gale taking advantage of a spilt kick to score under the posts.
Salford came back into the game well however, and restored parity through Ben Murdoch-Masila, who burst through the line to score.
Castleford Tigers put pressure on the Salford line towards the end of the first half, and they looked to have scored on the stroke of half time, but referee Phil Bentham pulled it back for a forward pass, to leave the score at 4-6 at half time.
The Tigers made a strong start to the second half, extending their lead to 8 points from Greg Minikin who scooped up on a Salford error to score in the corner.
Salford hit back again though however, as Ben Murdoch-Masila broke through four Castleford defenders to score under the posts, and O’Brien’s conversions reduced the deficit to just two points.
The score was quickly level as O’Brien scored a penalty from directly in front of the posts to set the game up for a tense finish.
With the clock ticking down, Gareth O’Brien slotted a drop goal to give Salford a one point lead.
Castleford were quickly back in possession and put Salford under pressure in the dying seconds, but the Red Devils held out for the win.
