Red Devils lose out in thriller

The Salford Red Devils were on the wrong end of a high scoring affair against Wakefield Trinity, losing 24-34 at the AJ Bell.

Tries from Jake Bibby (x2), Craig Kopczak and Lama Tasi were not enough to get the Devils over the line in a see-saw game.

The Red Devils welcomed George Griffin back from injury, and Kris Welham returned to the side in place of Josh Jones. Michael Dobson also started having missed the game against Warrington.

Despite dominating the early field position, Salford quickly found themselves 16 points down. Mason Caton-Brown and Reece Lyne both benefitted from elements of fortune to score length of the field effort, and Lyne doubled his tally minutes later.

Salford finally took advantage of their dominance on the stroke of half time, Jake Bibby scoring in the corner to get the hosts on the board.

The introduction of Todd Carney in the second half saw the Red Devils up the tempo and they were soon back within touching distance Craig Kopczak crashed over from short range.

The Red Devils were soon in the lead, Bibby finishing off a fantastic move and finishing well to score in the corner.

The game then swung again, and Caton-Brown scored for Wakefield securing his brace, and give Trinity the lead again.

As both teams looked to hit the knock out blow, Salford had the lead back, Lama Tasi muscling his way over to score in front of the delighted South Stand.

It was to be Wakefields game however, and scores from Caton-Brown and James Batchelor saw the visitors over the line.

The Red Devils will be looking to get back to winning ways against Hull FC on friday.
