Following our electric victory over Castleford Tigers on Sunday, Jack Ormondroyd spoke to us about the win and how he has developed this season.
Although the incredible win came on the pitch, Ormondroyd believes that it’s the ‘unbelievable’ support from the fans that helped them reach it.
“We’ve spoke about it a lot, we’ve had all this adversity and they’re still here turning up so credit to them and I think they’ve been massive for us the last few weeks.
“Without them I don’t think we would’ve got this win today.”
With the adversity we faced throughout the season, the players who have stayed throughout, including Ormondroyd, have been pushed to play at a higher level. He reflected on how this has impacted his performance.
“It’s obviously been hard – like we say, a few months now we’ve been on the back end of some bad results but it’s sort of given me an opportunity to play longer minutes, which, playing in the past, I didn’t really think I could do.
“I’ve not had a choice the last few weeks so I’ve sort of proved to myself that I can do it – so that’s been nice.”
Week in, week out, Ormondroyd has put in immense effort on the pitch but he expressed how some days can be harder than others.
“Days like today, it’s especially hard with the heat. We’ve got to do it really, especially today with having the troops down – you’ve got to do it.
“I can’t sit there and sulk about having to play longer minutes – it’s something that we’ve got to do.
“All the lads are having to dig their back shelf and they’re carrying for us. It helps massively having lads like Ethan making big carries in the backs – so they help out, but, like I say, it’s just something you’ve got to do.”
As an experienced player, Ormondroyd has stepped up as a leader in the squad, alongside Chris Hill.
“It’s good having Hilly around cause, obviously, the things he’s done – he’s played at the highest level – so to have him around and sort of learn from what he’s doing.
“I’m obviously not young myself – I’m one of the older boys now, but to have Hilly round has been good for me.
“Like I said, I’ve played nearly every game apart from the first one so I’ve not had a choice really – I’ve sort of had to do it.
