Women’s Head Coach, Mike Grady is hoping the team can take the many positives of their Challenge Shield run into the Championship campaign.
It was almost two months ago that tries from Louise Fellingham and Anna Dennis kickstarted our 2025 campaign in the best possible fashion – a 12-4 home win over Sheffield Eagles.
A long stretch of cup fixtures put the league on hold, but full focus has now returned to finishing in a playoff position, with the hopes of achieving promotion to the top flight of women’s rugby.
Despite defeat in the Challenge Shield final, there were plenty of positives from the string of victories that secured our place at a venue we’ll be revisiting this weekend.
Speaking in his Featherstone preview, Grady said: “It was a fantastic cup run, we did really well to get there. Some great matches. We didn’t concede a point up until the final and it was just the final hurdle we couldn’t get over.
“We’ve got to learn from that, we’ve got to use that as motivation for the league campaign.”
On his next task the league, he continued: “It’s massive, it does feel like a lifetime ago, but it was a good victory, we turned around a defeat against them in the playoffs last season, so that was pleasing and shows we can do it.
“We’ve just been working on that since with the cup rounds. It’s going to be a big game, Featherstone is always a tough place to go and this week will be no different.”
