Salford Red Devils were edged out by Castleford Tigers in a gripping 67-point thriller at Emerald Headingley.
Tries from Kevin Brown, Niall Evalds, Joey Lussick, Luke Yates and Rhys Williams were not enough to see Salford claim the points which would see them climb the Betfred Super League table.
The Red Devils got off to a flyer, when Brown intercepted on the halfway line and raced away to open the scoring, before he turned provider for Evalds, to see them go two scores in front within the first 10 minutes.
Joey Lussick then went in from close-range and Krisnan Inu converted all three tries to put his side 18-0 up.
Momentum then swung towards the Tigers, with tries from Danny Richardson, Michael Shenton and two from Paul McShane within the space of 12 minutes giving them the lead.
Salford looked to hit-back before the break, but saw their effort thwarted, as Greg Burke was held up over the line. Soon after they were able to find a way through, when Luke Yates went over and Inu ensured the two teams went into the break with the scores level.
