MATCH PREVIEW | SALFORD RED DEVILS VS ST HELENS | SUNDAY 31ST JULY 2022

Salford Red Devils are looking to continue an excellent run of form against league leaders St Helens in Round 21 of the Betfred Super League.

With last Saturday’s gritty 11-24 victory in the South of France against Toulouse Olympique, Paul Rowley’s side have won four out of their last five matches and are in flying form going into this weekend’s clash.

Despite periods of immense pressure by the hosts at the Stade Ernest-Wallon, Salford’s spirit prevailed once more and second-half tries from wing pairing Ken Sio and Joe Burgess proved pivotal in securing the vital two points.

This week, facing the reigning champions and current league leaders is another task altogether, but one they have already almost overcome once this season. In the reverse fixture, the hosts ran out 14-10 winners, but Salford were dramatically denied a late try when Chris Atkin sprinted 70 metres downfield, only to be stopped by the sprawling tackle of Morgan Knowles.

Saints – coached by Kristian Woolf – have won their last three games and are looking to build momentum as the season comes to a climax. After a grueling but ultimately successful 13-12 victory over Wakefield Trinity, they will be facing a Red Devils side full of enthusiasm.

Ahead of the crunch clash at the The Salford Stadium, head coach Paul Rowley has been speaking to the press about:

“Saints are a big challenge but one we’re looking forward to. We’re fully prepped and ready to go. We”ll turn up like we always do and give it 100% this week.”

He also went on to talk about the immense support that the Salford faithful have shown this season and is keen to see another big crowd on Sunday.

Rowley added: “The larger the crowd on Sunday, the better. We’re really grateful for the support, so keep coming along and enjoying the journey.”
