THE ORIGINAL RED DEVILS

Interview: Todd Carney becomes a Devil

New signing Todd Carney arrived from Australia over the weekend, and has been speaking to salfordreddevils.net for the first time.
Carney signed for Salford in January, and has finally linked up with his new team mates following a lengthy visa process. Despite only being with us a few days, Todd feels he is settling in well at the club already, he said;
“The boys have made me feel really welcome and the club has been really good, I arrived on Sunday morning so I’m still just getting the feel of the place, but trainings been good.”
Although the visa process was longer than expected, Carney says it did not curb his enthusiasm to play for the Red Devils;
“My bags have been packed since we first came to a deal, and I’m definitely excited and looking forward to a new challenge.”
Todd is no stranger to the Betfred Super League or the Salford Red Devils having had a spell with Catalans Dragons, and he is looking forward to playing at the The Salford Stadium in a red shirt;
“Salford have always been physical, they’ve always been hard to play here at home, and when I was at Catalans it was always a difficult encounter there, and I like the style of Rugby they’ve played. I’m looking forward to re-grouping with a few players I’ve played with in the NRL, like Dobbo (Michael Dobson), Justin Carney and Junior Sa’u”.
Alongside some of his former colleagues, Carney has trained with the rest of the Salford Red Devils squad this week, and he is relishing the challenge of establishing himself in the team;
“It’s going to take time for me to fit in and to find a place in the team, but I’m looking forward to that challenge and to chucking the Red Devils shirt on.”
Capped by Australia, and New South Wales, Carney has a wealth of rugby league experience behind him, something that he is hoping can be beneficial to whole Red Devils squad;
“I’ve been around a fair bit now, I haven’t been in the Super League for that long but I feel like I’ve been experienced from the NRL, so I’ll try and help some of the Juniors that are coming through.”
Having played at  a high level, Carney is no stranger to playing for ambitious clubs, and he is looking forward to helping the Red Devils achieve their goals for this season;
“I wasn’t here for the pre-season, but when you look around the room and see the goals that we’ve set, I’m confident that I can help them achieve that.”
