THE ORIGINAL RED DEVILS

IAN WATSON | “WELHAM WAS OUTSTANDING”

Salford Red Devils head coach Ian Watson commended the performance of Kris Welham in his 300th career appearance.
Welham scored a brace of tries in the Red Devils’ 40-14 victory over Catalans Dragons.
Watson Said: “I don’t like to identify individuals usually, but I thought Kris Welham was outstanding on his 300th career appearance.
“His two tries. His defence. Him and Tui (Lolohea) getting up together and just shutting them down.”
He added: “Tui’s bought into what we’ve asked him to do. He’s really comfortable with the way we play and we play to his strengths.
“Some of the little kicks he’s putting through at the moment are right on the money.”
The Red Devils boss was also pleased by the effort from the squad as a whole.
“We’re winning games on sheer endeavour and desire as a team more than anything,” said Watson.
“The team ethic. The performance and the way they’re working for each other is the big thing.
“That’s what we’ve spoken about – our effort and our attitude, and that’s been first class.”
Salford now have a break in their fixtures, before travelling to face London on August 4th.
Watson said: “There’s players coming back next week, which will add more competition, so I’m pleased we’ve got a weekend off in that aspect.
“Lee Mossop, Ben Nakubuwai, Josh Wood and potentially Ken Sio will be back, so we’re looking in a decent position going forward with them.
“It gives us a little bit of time to get them back up and running.”
Salford’s next home game will see them host Huddersfield Giants at the The Salford Stadium on Sunday 11 August. Tickets for the match are available HERE.
