Prop forward, Chris Hill has credited his teammates with keeping him motivated to produce some monstrous performances, week after week.
The England international signed for the Reds at the start of 2025, confirming his 20th season of a glittering professional rugby league career.
A two-time Betfred Challenge Cup winner, Hill has continued to lead from the front throughout a difficult season and earned mass plaudits for his long stints in the middle.
Head Coach, Paul Rowley has said in previous weeks that he’s seen ‘green shoots’ of positivity from his team – at that finally was rewarded with Sunday’s 26-22 victory over Castleford Tigers.
Ethan Ryan, Harvey Wilson, Joe Mellor, Esan Marsters and Chris Hankinson were all on the scoresheet, but it was the forwards who set the platform, despite having to play long minutes in high temperatures.
That’s nothing new to rugby league veteran, Hill, who has done the same all season in testing circumstances. After picking up his Player of the Match medal, Sky Sports’ Rod Studd told the 37-year-old he had to check if his age was correct, as was the incredible level of his performance.
“37; still feeling it, still going strong and enjoying it more than anything – so I’ll keep going,” he responded.
On the game itself, he continued: “A great effort by the boys. We earmarked this one a little bit, but you can see over the last few weeks the quality has been coming.
“There’s been switches and changes with Olly Russell coming in this week for Danny Richardson, but we’re sticking together and that’s what you get today.”
Hill made an outstanding 197 metres across the contest and has proved to be a constant offload threat for the opposition, sparking Mellor’s crucial score just before half-time when he poked his nose through the line and started the attack.
All the adversity that’s gone into Salford’s season may have derailed the team’s ability to go again and again, but Hill has stated the motivation they’ve managed to keep comes from within.
He finished: “The lads. Being in with the lads. You can’t recreate thatfeeling anywhere, we’ve done that, we’ve stuck together -we’re a good group of men!”
