FOSTER: “SALFORD’S PLAY STYLE WILL SUIT ME DOWN TO A TEE”

New signing, Matty Foster is excited to get to work in pre-season and show what attributes he can bring to the team.

Progressing through the ranks at St. Helens, Foster sprung onto the scene at a young age and has impressed with his skilful displays in the back-row.

At just 22 years old, he will be able lean on the advice of Kallum Watkins, who – naturally a centre – has selflessly switched to the second-row and continued to produce world class performances, week-on-week.

His inclusion in the 2023 Betfred Super League Dream Team was further proof of his standing amongst the rugby league community.

Speaking exclusively to our YouTube channel, after confirmation of his move, Foster was asked to describe what skillset he can bring to the squad.

“I’m predominately a back-rower, but my attributes are – I like to think – I’m quite a physical back-rower with a bit of skill,” he said.

“Salford’s play style will suit me down to a tee.”

Moving on to talk about the switch itself, Foster revealed there was still interest from his former club, but a conversation with our Head Coach made his decision very clear.

“It was a bit of weird one really because Saints still wanted to keep me on at the time,” he continued.

“But when Salford came in and I met with Rowley, it just made that thought clear in my head that this is what I want to do, and I felt more at ease about coming.

“It was an easy decision in the end!”
