Red Devils hold out Centurions

The Red Devils made it 5 wins in a row in scrappy game against local rivals Leigh Centurions at the The Salford Stadium.
Josh Wood came into the side for Salford in place of Todd Carney as Salford looked to build on the 54-18 win against Hull FC the week before.
Leigh came into the game looking to correct a run of three consecutive defeats which has seen them slip into the bottom four.
The game started off on an even keel with both teams going set for set, Salford took the lead when Gareth O’Brien converted a simple penalty.
Leigh struck back and took the lead with a try through Mitch Brown who got on the end of a grubber kick to score.
The Red Devils put pressure on the Leigh line before half time and it eventually paid off, Kriss Welham forcing his way over in the corner to score.
Half time: 6-6.
As the rain continued to stream down, both teams were working hard to restrict the error count.
With Leigh starting to look tired, Salford took full advantage, and Gareth O’Brien finished off a brilliant following move to give the Red Devils the lead back.
As the clock started to tick down, Salford’s defence came into it’s own as they restricted Leigh to minimal possession in the Salford half.
Despite O’Brien hitting the post with an attempted drop goal, the Red Devils hung on for the win, to maintain our place as 2nd in the table.
This weekend will be quick turnaround as the team faces Catalans Dragons in France on Monday.
