Salford Red Devils head coach Ian Watson took positives from his side’s last minute defeat away to St Helens.
Dominant spells either side of the break were not enough to see the Red Devils clinch what would have been their sixth away win of the season.
Watson said: “It’s a tough one to take. 16-0 down and then for the boys to show everything you want out of the team – the determination, the desire, the belief in each other to be able to come back from that.
“Then to get 30 unanswered points and get yourselves in a position to win the game at Saints, who haven’t lost here – it’s a tough one.”
He added: “There were loads of positives. I just hope the boys can see – the work they put in – if they do that every single week they’re a top team and can compete and challenge the best teams.”
Despite suffering a two-point defeat, Watson’s team became the first to score 30 points against St Helens since August 2018.
“I believe our team’s good enough to compete with the top teams,” said Watson.
“We just know that all of our guys have got to be a seven, or eight out of 10 every single week to do really well.
“It’s when we fall off our standards. That’s when we get ourselves in trouble.”
He added: “You’ve got to attack at Saints. You’ve got to come at them physically in defence, as well as attacking with the ball.”
